Announcing “The Charlie Chaplin Blogathon: Celebrating the Little Tramp”

18 Feb

I am so excited to be co-hosting “The Little Tramp” Blogathon with Domi at Little Bits of Classics. The Blogathon will be held on April 14, 15, and ending on the 16, which marks 129 years since he was born. A great comedian, a pioneer in the early days of cinema, we feel he deserves a great celebration!

Please follow the link below to sign up. Looking forward to seeing you all in April!

Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin, also known as Charlie or The Little Tramp, was born 129 years ago, on the 16th of April, 1889. Seeing this as an opportunity to celebrate together, Christina Wehner and I have decided to host a blogathon in his honour between the 14th and 16th of April.

HI Christina! This is very exciting and have registered via the Google Docs form. I think I’m the first to register 🙂 Looking forward to it and have chosen ‘City Lights” (1931) to review. Best regards, paul from Silver Screen Classics

Christina: I would love to particpate, but when I try to enter via you Google Doc, it tells me that my blog’s URL is invalid, even though I know I’m using the correct address. I would like to write about the movie The Great Dictator, and I’d also like to write about the Chaplin vs. Keaton debate. My blog’s URL is http://moviemovieblogblog.wordpress.com

So glad to have you! I will put it all in manually and check to see if I can make the Google Doc work. Thanks for telling me!

You know, as a classic film fan, I’ve actually never seen a Charlie Chaplin film before! But, I have seen the Robert Downey Jr. film, Chaplin; does that count?

Hmm…it’s close! 🙂 It’s funny how certain actors escape us. I still; haven’t seen a Mae West film and I really like the pre-code era!

The Gold Rush or The Kid are really awesome films to start with, though all his silent films are great.

Was the Chaplin film with Downey Jr. good? I’ve never seen it, but wondered about it.

I generally like biopics, so I was pleased with the Chaplin movie. And it was a biopic that focused on a classic Hollywood era, so of course, I loved that, lol. I dunno how accurate it was, but I think overall, I enjoyed it. It’s directed by Richard Attenborough.

Hi, Christina! I’d like to write about Charlie’s time in Niles, California. It might be a quickie, but it should be interesting. 🙂 Oh, and I tried the Google doc, but it won’t take my blog URL either–it only wants e-mail addresses.

Oh no! Thanks for telling me! I’ll try to fix that.

Sounds like a great topic! Will definitely be looking forward to reading about it! 🙂

Thanks, Christina, and I hope so! I used to live in Fremont, where Niles is incorporated, so I would see the train depot where Chaplin filmed pretty frequently. It’ll be fun to research it further.

Hi there, would it be ok to do a trailer review on his biopic, Chaplin with Robert Downey Jnr? from Gill at Realweegiemidget Reviews, thought I would check this out with you before signing up.

A review on the trailer of his biopic? That would be wonderful! I’ve actually never seen the biopic with Down Jr and have always been rather curious about it.

That’s right, not seen the film either. Thanks – don’t have time to do the full movie, but so want to check it out too.

I’ve found some videos about his portrayal of Chaplin so it might develop into that more than a trailer post. But I couldnt resist it as do love a good biopic.

That sounds intriguing! It must be quite an undertaking to play someone as iconic as Chaplin.

That’s what I was thinking, so will be an interesting project, so will probably add that angle too. Also looks an amazing supporting cast, Penelope Ann Miller, Kevin Kline and Marisa Tomei. I’ve added my post to add my review on the day telling of his life, would that be the best day?
