About Me

My Name

It’s pronounced WAY-ner; though I’ve been called everything from WEE-ner to WY-ner to WER-ner. I answer to every variation except WEE-ner; it sounds like a hotdog. 🙂

What This Blog Is About

This blog is about sharing my love and fascination with movies and musicals from the 1920s-1950s and for books, BC to AD.

What I Do

I am a writer and blogger who had a ball majoring in general music studies, but now dedicate myself to writing short stories and novels and to educating myself on everything from record players to screwball comedies to “My Fair Lady” to Jane Austen and Homer.

Why I Write

As I read and watch movies or listen to music, I believe it forms a connection with the past. I love to listen to music and then find out that my grandmother grew up hearing her father sing it when she was a child. It makes me feel closer to my great-grandfather, even though I never knew him.

When I read or watch a movie, the connection is still somewhat superficial, but as soon as I learn about the actors or the author or the artistry or a fun piece of trivia, or hear someone’s memories regarding it, then the connection becomes more real. It’s like a whole world opening up before me and this blog is about sharing and experiencing that world with others.

Thanks for checking out my blog. Yours looks very interesting. I like old films but don’t seem to get around to watching very many. It would help if there was a TV channel devoted exclusively to classic / old movies, but (in the UK at least) there doesn’t seem to be.

Glad you liked my review of the John Ford book, especially since it helped me find your blog! Really love what you say up above about forming a connection with a past through old movies and other media. I do much the same, following those interesting threads of trivia to learn about, explore and share the past. I think I’m going to like this place!

    Hi!
I had a friend whose name was Meyrick but people were mispronouncing her name. Some called her Mee-rick or I don’t know what. At the end of the day, she started using her nickname. So, I understand how you feel.
Looking forward to reading your articles!
